Avalon Resident is a 1960's mid-century raised ranch-style house. A traditional ranch-style house is only one story, but a raised ranch raises the roof to provide extra living space. Located in a typical suburban subdivision where most homes are similar because the floor plan and layout are the same. The owner wanted to modernize the house without taking it too far from its context. Curb appeal was the first step in modernizing the home. A low-maintenance modern landscape both front and back create a zen-like garden. Wood decks are located in the rear of the property for outdoor entertainment. Accented with stainless steel accessories help create an urban element. Inside, the owner wanted to connect the living room, dining room, and kitchen. A wall separating a cramp eat-in-kitchen and formal dining room was removed. The kitchen expanded spilling into the old dining room with a ten-foot island made for entertaining. Modern decor throughout the house unifies the raised ranch makeover.
